.Nfo files are usually included with a RAR set and contains information about the post/article. They let the user know exactly what is contained in the archive and also the rest of the properties of the file. For example, if the .nfo file accompanies a RAR set that happens to be a video, it will tell you the name of the video, the format, source, size, length of the video, language of video, etc. If it is some other type of binary, it could give you installation instructions or instructions on how to use the file. It is standard on Usenet to post an .nfo file with an upload giving details of the posting. This helps other newsgroup users know exactly what to expect so they do not waste time downloading articles they do not need.
